With the advent of the romantic artistic currents in Spain the interest for landscape painting arised.
Painters of the nineteenth century Sevillian school showed interest in this genre and sought inspiration in British and French painters such as David Roberts and Turner, who were the European landscape masters of the time.
Manuel Barrón y Carrillo (1814-1884), was the most outstanding Andalusian romantic landscape painter, with a concept very close to that of Pérez Villamil (View of Seville from Punta del Verde), and Andrés Cortés, whose landscapes are characterized by an eclecticism drinking from British roots (La Feria de Sevilla) and Flemish roots, as well as the school of Murillo.
The shool of Alcalá de Guadaíra should also be mentioned, as the group of painters who gathered around the figure of Manuel Ussel Guimbarda and Emilio Sanchez Perrier, who from 1890 began to paint in the banks of the river Guadaira.
This school of landscapers, which connects with the Seville school, arose while other landscaping schools were being created in Europe and America in those same years. All of them followed the example of the Barbizon school in the Fontainebleau forest near Paris, which was the origin of the plenairist painting (outdoors painting) and Impressionism.
