Mariano Bertuchi is a painter Spanish born in Granada on 6 February 1884 and died in Tetouan on 20 June 1955 . It shows in the style orientalist , considered the painter of the Protectorate Spanish , and painted landscapes of Morocco and the daily life of its inhabitants. When settled in Tetouan , where he remained until the end of his life he became inspector Services of Fine Arts, and directed the School of Fine Arts in Indigenous Tetuan , while leading the artistic direction of several journals and magazines and multiplying partnership creations of posters and postage stamps . Its important activity of teaching and the traditional cultural heritage defense was a major contribution to the cultural development of Morocco during the Protectorate .
Mariano Bertuchi is generally known as the great painter of the Protectorate , the painter of Morocco . Through his work, the viewer can imagine this time of peace in northern Morocco by the Spanish army. His work is little known because it is not easy to identify all his works, especially in its realization of stamps and posters . His painting is mainly inspired by the landscapes of urban Tetouan and Chefchaouen : markets, cafes, gardens, streets, scene of daily life, festivals and ceremonies, views of life and the Maghreb people. Indefatigable, he painted mainly in oil and in watercolor , but it is also dedicated to drawing and engraving .
